Leadership Vision:

Principal

Stewardship in education is the ideal that effective school leadership manifests itself through modeled service in support of the learning community. Stewards professionally develop others while instilling confidence and fostering inquiry for individuals to become leaders. Building community and empowering families facilitates synergistic roles, vested responsibilities, and psychological safety. P.S. 21’s vision, mission, and culture will be living entities where all constituents share in its development and cultivation. A school community cannot create a supportive environment where all stakeholders feel safe, supported, and challenged to achieve maximum success without stewards serving its needs. In my experience as an educator, my leadership philosophy has evolved into what I have come to call the “ICCARE” model, which brands the leadership objectives I feel encapsulate stewardship. In fostering Innovation, Community, Collaboration, Accountability, Rigor, and Equity, I believe our learning community can develop into a highly effective and sustainable environment, in which student needs, both academic and social emotional, can be supported.

Alignment of P.S. 21 School Vision, Mission and College/Career Center:

Vision: P.S. 21 is committed to building a collegial community of high expectations, transparency, and mutual trust. The school community collaborates to design interdisciplinary, project-based curricula and assessments that cultivate We Empower Community, Collaboration, Accountability, Rigor, and Equity (WECCARE).

Mission: P.S. 21’s mission is to challenge students to achieve their personal best and empower them to become productive, independent members of society.

As educators we understand that students have an underlying need for consistency that delves into many different areas when educating the whole child.  The Port Richmond Pipeline, the schools involved in our mission, wants to challenge students to achieve their personal best and empower them to become productive, independent members of society.  PS21, IS 51, Port Richmond High School and Wagner College will work collaboratively to create and cultivate interdisciplinary culturally relevant and standards- aligned learning experiences utilizing real world and career - based applications in daily instruction.  In order to meet these goals we will institute programs that will run from the elementary level straight through to the college level.  One such program to help unify daily instruction is The Writing Revolution. The Writing Revolution, a research based writing program that increases literacy, will be taught seamlessly through the high school level to the students.  Creating this common language will allow us to create a common academic language for all students.  Once students are familiar with the program, it will create consistency as they transition from elementary, middle school and high school. Many of our empathy interviews revealed to us that students were nervous about entering IS 51 because they did not know what to expect.  Having this pipeline and a common academic language will help to ease these fears.   Other programs to help us on this journey include Experiential Learning Program Markham, social emotional learning, and robotics.  Additionally, the Port Richmond Pipeline wants to facilitate high levels of family and community engagement to ensure they are represented in the goals.  All schools involved are committed to cultivating a culture of equity, trust, respect, and collaboration. Lastly, the Port Richmond Pipeline will raise awareness and build a college going culture nurturing students awareness and building students confidence to aspire to attend college.
